The human race did not inherit the Earth as it looks today. It took a lot of effort, intellect, and the resultant developments in technology to turn it to the planet as it is now.

Sterile land was converted to grassy pastures and later used to construct buildings and skyscrapers. These advancements contributed to the amenities and luxuries we enjoy today, but this came at a price. Fewer plants.

The very first biology book we read as a kid tells us that plants are important for all living things. As we advance through our academic years we are even told that life, as we know it, will not exist without plants.

Plants are extremely important for the ecosystem. All organisms in the food chain, directly or indirectly, get energy from them. However, as mankind thrived for better infrastructure and buildings, plants were sacrificed. In recent decades, governments around the world have realized the calamitous consequences of this negligence and we are forced to revert to the knowledge of our first biology book; plants are really important. They serve us in ways many of us are not even aware of.

Reduce Carbon Dioxide

One of the main functions of a plant is to reduce carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Humans and animals breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide and, as mentioned earlier, plants do exactly the opposite. Plants use the sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water to sugar and oxygen, through a process called photosynthesis. A planet without plants will be impossible to breathe in. This testifies the earlier statement; life will not exist without plants.

Purify Air

Rising health awareness has made people more conscious about the food they consume, but what about the air they breathe? The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that on average, the indoor air quality is typically 2 to 5 times worse than the outside. This polluted air poses an equally potent threat to human health and requires us to improve the air quality indoors. Plants absorb pollutants while providing oxygen, ensuring uninterrupted supply of purified air. This is reason enough to have more plants in our homes and work environments.

After a series of experiments and studies, scientists have concluded that plants purify the air, improve the indoor environment and are useful in combating the Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). While we feel secure within the premises of our homes, we are still exposed to airborne pollutants. Only a quarter of 82,000 chemicals in the US have been tested for their effects on humans. This tells us that the only protection we have against these alien, invisible chemicals is air purification, and the best way to do this is through indoor plants.

Reduce noise

People generally do not like noisy places. Offices, hotels, retail shops and medical facilities make a concentrated effort to reduce noise and ensure that the inhabitants enjoy a sense of serenity. An expensive solution would be soundproof walls and windows but the right way to do it is to grow plants.

Plants have this mystic characteristic to absorb noise through different means. Plant parts like stem, leaves and wood absorb sound. Plants can also reduce noise by deflecting it. When a sound hits a wall, it bounces back, but when it hits a flexible material like a plant, the sound wave is transformed to other forms of energy and is also deflected to other directions.

Lowering Blood Pressure

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is one of the most common diseases today. Currently, one in three adults in the United States suffers from high blood pressure.

Plants not only serve as an important food intake to combat the disease but also help reduce stress levels, heart rate and blood pressure. Eating a plant-based diet and being surrounded by plants may well be the step in the right direction for all hypertension patients.

Fight Cold and Flu

Catching a cold or flu may not be a medical emergency but it is certainly not the best feeling either. Flu symptoms usually last for a week and even medical specialists avoid prescribing medicines for it. Instead of medicines, people can use plants to avoid or heal the flu.

Consuming plants like citrus fruit, ginger and garlic can help heal flu and you can also grow plants in your surroundings which can protect you from falling sick. According to a research conducted at Kansas State University, adding plants to hospital rooms improved patients’ recovery speed.

Biology theories have always been right in highlighting the importance of plants. We may have overlooked these theories and followed the advancements in physics and chemistry which made our lives more convenient, but for healthier lungs and lives, plants and trees are still the best choice.

How CBD Helps With Stress and Sleep Problems

Finding the best CBD oil today can be an overwhelming process since there is a growing number of manufacturers and hardly any regulation. However, several studies have been conducted to investigate the application of CBD oil in relieving stress and sleep problems.

CBD products have become one of the best natural alternatives, especially if traditional methods such as meditation, exercise, or medication do not work. If you are looking to get on the CBD bandwagon, read on to the end for insights on how CBD helps with stress and sleep problems.

CBD and Stress

There are several types of stress, including oxidative stress, situational stress, and stress associated with depression and anxiety. When considering the CBD for stress relief, you must take into account that everybody is unique and will respond differently to the chemicals and medication introduced to the body.

Research shows that CBD reduces neuro atrophy in the hippocampus. This helps the brain to improve memory as well as in boosting mood and focus. Additional research shows that CBD can help in:

  • Alleviating autism symptoms
  • Reduced feelings of isolation
  • Reduced feelings of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

CBD’s ability to calm and relax the brain while protecting the hippocampus has led to many people using it to alleviate stress. Moreover, CBD has been shown to help with psychosis and social anxiety disorder. In general, CBD induces feelings of relaxation and overall wellbeing.

However, since there is little research in the area, there are little known long-term effects of using CBD for managing stress. People who have tried it for stress claim it is a better alternative to traditional medication.

CBD for Sleep Problems

CBD has been used for thousands of years to treat and manage sleep problems. With increased research, we are seeing more people accept CBD as an alternative to taking sleeping pills and sleeping aids.

Several studies over the years have linked a variety of reasons for sleeping problems. Before of medical marijuana, most people had to result to meditation, exercise, and medication to get a full night worth of sleep. However, CBD can help in managing and treating sleep problems in the following ways:

1. Reducing Anxiety

One of the most common causes of insomnia and other related sleeping problems is stress and anxiety. Taking controlled amounts of CBD will help in regulating cortisol, which is a stress hormone that can have adverse effects on your sleeping cycle.

A recent study showed that CBD is beneficial for anxiety-related disorders, and the participants reported an increase in the quality of sleep.

2. Pain Relief

Chronic pain can be one of the causes of sleeping problems, and CBD is a better alternative to the commercial pain killers already in the market. Unlike sleeping aids, CBD acts on the symptoms rather than providing a sedative effect.

3. Pregnancy Symptoms

Pregnant women find it difficult to get restful sleep due to factors such as stress, nausea, pain, and general pregnancy-induced insomnia. The World Health Organization (WHO) has come in support of CBD’s ability to reduce and manage problems during pregnancy.

However, there are few clinical trials, if any, in this area and you ought to consult your doctor before taking CBD while pregnant for managing your sleeping problems.

4. Eliminating Nightmares

Frequent nightmares have been found to have a negative effect on the quality of sleep for many people. This is especially rampant in people who have REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), which is characterized by an increase in nightmares and restlessness.

Patients that have been treated for RBD using CBD products have shown fewer side effects compared to traditional medications. Some have shown no side effects at all and increased sleep quality.

5. Somnolence

Somnolence is a state of strong desire to sleep at odd times or sleeping for unusually long periods. CBD can help in regulating the sleep and wake cycles, which leads to improved wakefulness during the day and relaxation at night.

Somnolence affects your productivity during the day and the ability to fall asleep at night. When administered during the day in the proper dosage, you will be more alert and more restful sleep at night.

How to use CBD for Sleep

Unfortunately, there are no clear guidelines on how much CBD you should consume to help with your sleeping problems. For this reason, experimentation is the only option for finding out how much CBD you should take.

Presently, CBD is recommended for short-term sleeping problems since the effects may fade over time. CBD products such as sublingual sprays and tinctures offer immediate results. You could also use a dab pen to vape a CBD e-liquid an hour before bedtime for the better sleep.

There is an increase in the funding allocated to researching the effects of CBD on stress and sleeping problems. It is projected that it will surpass the $3 billion mark by 2025. However, the use of CBD is mainly unregulated, and you should consult a doctor before trying any CBD product to avoid adverse side effects.

Some treat it as a wonder drug that is the cure for almost every ailment, while others consider it an evil drug that will ruin your life. So, what is the truth? Well, cannabis does have some medical benefits, but it, of course, isn't the cure for everything, and while it is used as a recreational drug as well, it is not as dangerous as many people think. In fact, it is actually a lot safer than tobacco.

One of the major benefits of the cannabis plant is pain relief. Cannabis can make even the most severe muscle pains vanish, and it also acts as an anti-inflammatory. The amazing cannabis drug does all this without causing any severe side effects.

If you are into gardening, you can even grow your own weed, but you may be wondering is it legal to grow weed in Canada? Well, it does depend on the state you are living in. Different states have their own rules and limitations, but if you follow them, you can grow some weed at home for your own personal use.

CBD is an amazing element. It is a cannabis extract. CBD oil is a great option for you if you want the pain relief of cannabis without the psychoactive effects.

You can apply CBD oil topically in the sore and painful area to eliminate pain and inflammation, or you can also add it to your diet to have double the effects. You can even make CBD oil from the weed you grow in your own garden. Check out some reviews on the web to find out how to do it.

Unlike cannabis, there isn't any question about the legality of kratom. It is completely legal in Canada and the US. If you have a garden, you can also look into growing some for your use. Kratom is a great plant that can help with chronic pain a lot.

Turmeric is an amazing herb that very few people know for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects. Turmeric has an active compound called curcumin. Light Exercise and Stretching

When you are experiencing muscle pain, you may be tempted just to sit around all day. It's true that you need rest, but according to medical experts, active recovery is the best way to go about relieving and potentially curing muscle pain. You should do some light exercises and stretching to increase blood flow to the affected areas. Light exercise can also strengthen your muscles so that they don't get sore and inflamed easily.

Proper Sleep and Rest

Your body needs to get the right amount of sleep to recover. Proper sleep is not given the importance it deserves, and in some cases, it is hard for people to go to sleep because of the pain. You should be getting at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep every day to keep your body well-rested. Proper sleep and rest are essential for the proper functioning of your immune system and the healing of the affected area.
