Finding the Best Hot Tub Covers on the Market

I truly love having a hot tub at home. I get to enjoy the days whenever I need warm baths or therapeutic sessions. Or whenever I throw out a party at my house, my friends do love hanging out in my hot tub while relaxing and having chit chats. Everything seems to be alright and there isn’t anything I need to worry about until I saw some debris and dirt all over it the next day. That’s when I thought I had to get a hot tub cover to seal it off.

I have started looking for the best hot tub covers after using a simple sheet to cover my tub as I thought this would do. But it was not enough, especially during winter. So I kept searching from physical stores to online stores to find the best hot tub cover. I also checked some reviews and considered some important factors before I settle on the one the best suits my tub. Finally, I have found the best tub cover. With this post, I would like to share you these effective steps that I did.

Top 5 Best Hot Tub Covers on the Market

There are a lot of available hot tub covers to choose from but there are some that really stand out. So, I narrowed down the list to give you the Top 5 Best Hot Tub Covers on the market.

As I ventured on many different stores, the major feature I always look for is its ability to withstand the changing climate. It is not that easy to find though every product says it so. However, I came across the Cover Guy Deluxe Hot Tub cover. Despite its hefty price, it has the feature that I have been looking for. It is customized with a 5” x 3” tapered cover and the highest marine grade vinyl. Its insulation value is R19 and the density foam is 1.5lb. It also guarantees zero water absorption with its new generation coating and wrapping. With all these customizations, including the reinforced hinge and tear-free handles, it makes the cover durable yet lightweight.

The maximum size of this tub cover is 96” x 96” which provides a perfect fit. The locks do too, and it does not secure only the hot tub but also makes it child-proof.

There are some features I noticed that could have been improved. The skirt compromises the fit, the whole cover does give excellent fit, though. However, whenever I try to seal it, the skirt does not lay properly. But overall, it is one of my favorite hot tub covers.

What we like:

  • Features 5” x 3” tapered cover, 1.5 density foam, and R19 insulation
  • Uses the highest marine grade vinyl
  • Durable and lightweight
  • Features locks and straps
  • Can withstand harsh weather conditions

    What we don't like:

    • The skirt does not lay properly
    • A bit Expensive

The climate is one of the factors that I needed to consider when looking for a hot tub cover. Since the weather constantly changes, sometimes it is much better to give your hot tub double protection from the harsh UV rays, snow, rain, debris or any other elements. Considering those, this thermal spa cover protector can withstand different weather conditions.

The Thermal Spa Cover is made from tough woven polyethylene material that keeps the tub from all the effects of changing seasons. I found it more effective especially in summer when the heat is overwhelming. If it was cheaply made, it wouldn’t have survived the heat but it did. It also has an elastic band that allows the cover to stretch right over your tub and hence, provides a perfect fit. It is recommended for medium-sized hot tubs with its measurement of 8 x 8 x 12 inches.

The only drawback I found is the thickness. It is pretty thin which makes it less durable but it is lightweight. And since it doesn’t have any other locks, it tends to come off. However, with such price, I think this one’s just worth it.

    What we like:

    • Made from woven polyethylene material for superior protection from different types of weather
    • Durable and lightweight
    • Features an elastic band for perfect fit
    • Provides protection from UV rays, snow, rain, debris and any other elements
    • Affordable price

      What we don't like:

      • It is pretty thin
      • It does not have any other locks

One thing I’ve learned while looking for the best cover for my tub is to prepare an extra budget. It is not quite easy to look for a cover that is affordable. Everything seems to be at a hefty price and you’d be just lucky to find one that’s below $200 or $300. However, sometimes, spending a bit more than the budget is worth it, particularly when the quality exceeds your standards. The BeyondNice Hot Tub Cover is incredibly expensive but one of those great products.

I am impressed how it is equipped with all the best features and this explains the price tag. It is made with a marine grade polyester thread and a marine grade mildew resistant vinyl which is best for UV rays and other effects of the climate. It also features a standard foam cored that taper from 6 inches thick at the middle and 4 inches thick at the edges. Considering the foam thickness is very important as this helps you know which has the best load capacity and superior protection.

The foam density uses top quality virgin EPS foam cores at 1lb density. This feature actually proves that it can last for a long time. I realized that if I buy this cover even at its pricey cost, I’d be able to save much more in the long run due to its durability. Aside from that, it is customized with polyethylene vapor barriers to prevent moisture. It also features steam stopper heat seals, 2 nylon lifting handles, 4 locking tie down straps and a 6-inch wide skirt for double protection.

      What we like:

      • Made of marine grade polyester thread and marine grade mildew-resistant vinyl
      • Tapered cover – 6-inch foam in the middle and 4-inch foam at the edges
      • Features 1lb foam density and made of top quality virgin EPS foam cores
      • Has polyethylene vapor barriers to prevent moisture
      • Features steam stopper heat seals, lifting handles and locks

        What we don't like:

        • It is expensive

The Hot Springs Sovereign replacement spa cover is the next in our list. Then again, I have checked the major features – the foam density and foam thickness. It has 4-inch to 2-inch taper with 1 pound foam density. These are vital aspects of a tub cover if you really want to find the best protection for your tub. The 4” x 2” thickness means 50-pound load capacity. The 1-pound foam density and grade vinyl, on the other hand, ensure durability. I think this would also be a good option for commercial use. It features commercial quality, double stitching for added strength and a double reinforced standard folding hinge.

The cover also features 3.75-inch skirt length for extra protection and 7-inch strap length for a better fit.

To prevent moisture and water absorption, this tub cover also has poly vapor moisture barrier. It also has extruded PVC resin zipper and 2 polystyrene steam-stoppers to keep the heat in. The locking tie-downs also make it safe for children.

        What we like:

        • Features 4” x 2” foam thickness and 1-pound foam density
        • Durable quality – double-stitching and double reinforced folding hinge
        • Built with poly vapor moisture barrier
        • Features locks; child-proof
        • Has extruded PVC resin zipper and 2 polystyrene steam-stoppers to keep the heat in

          What we don't like:

          • A bit expensive
          • It is not standard in size which does not provide a perfect fit in some hot tubs.

The last product I came across was this Sundance Optima Replacement hot tub cover. Compared to all the other products, this one’s also loaded with stunning features. The ones that I find impressive are the commercial grade vinyl material it is made of, 4”x2” tapered foam, commercial quality aluminum c-channels, double stitching and double reinforced standard folding hinge. Its insulation has 1-pound foam density polystyrene inserts. Each insert is heat-sealed with a poly vapor moisture barrier to prevent water absorption and moisture.

The Sundance Optima hot tub cover keeps the children safe with its lock tie-downs. This also secures the tub with a perfect fit. It measures 89x 89 inches with 8-inch radius corners.

Well, of course, just like any other brands, this one has some drawbacks. I know that it is designed to be a quality product but I think the plastic is too thin and delicate. If it stays that way, I think it will rip or get damaged over time.

          What we like:

          • Features 4”x2” foam thickness and 1-pound foam density
          • Made of commercial grade vinyl material and commercial quality aluminum c-channels
          • Has reinforced standard folding hinge
          • Features poly vapor moisture barrier to prevent moisture and water absorption
          • Child-proof

            What we don't like:

            • The material doesn’t seem very durable. The plastic is thin and delicate
            • It rips easily

The Cover Guy Deluxe Hot Tub Cover

After going through all these product features and consumer reviews, 2 of them actually stood out - The Cover Guy Deluxe Hot Tub Cover and BeyondNice Hot Tub Cover and Spa Cover. Both of them have amazing features that really suit the standards that I’ve been looking for. The only factor that holds me back between those two is the price. The Cover Guy Deluxe Hot Tub is cheaper than the BeyondNice hot tub cover. However, as I narrowed down the features and compared the pros and cons, The Cover Guy Deluxe Hot Tub has more to offer.

Both of them used high marine grade vinyl, but then I noticed that they differ in foam density and thickness. The Cover Guy Deluxe Hot Tub has 5”x3” foam thickness which provides better load capacity. Its density is 1.5lbs which makes it quite durable all throughout the seasons of the year. Though it is sturdy in construction, it is lightweight. The available locks also keep the tub secured and the children safe from any accidents.

With regards to the price, I think this is a bit pricey. However, if you are willing to invest more, this one’s worth it.
